Judge's Special Awards & Scholarships

Judge's Special Awards:

At most competitions, there are judge's awards. Sometimes Judge's Awards are pre-determined, like Best Technique or Most Entertaining. Judges will pick a routine to fit the pre-set award during the competition. Other times, the judges create awards during the event that are routine specific, for example, Bound for Broadway, Best Use of Prop, Unshakable Smile, Professionally Flawless, or Best Character Performance. A judge or MC saw a special sparkle in a routine and wanted to recognize the dancer or choreographer. These awards don't automatically go to the absolute best dancers, which allows other dancers to get recognition. Dancers love to receive a Judge's Award. Dance parents find them equally as exciting!

Scholarship Awards:

Scholarship awards are given to dancers for stand-out routines. The scholarships are typically for future events such as Nationals, a Convention, or a Special Event in New York or Disney. The scholarship awards are typically for a specific dollar amount towards the event or free entry into a future event. Scholarship awards don't always get used. The event might be far away, pricey, or during a weekend when your dancer is busy. However, if your dancer plans to attend Nationals or a future convention, then these scholarships are helpful. The scholarship may be for a Special Part in a Nationals Opening Number routine or a free entry at a dance convention. Any extra money saved on a future event is a win! Whether your dancer uses the scholarship or not, winning these awards is an honor.

Tips:

For scholarship awards, review the event expectations, event and travel costs, and what the scholarship covers. Remember to read the scholarship because sometimes there is a QR code to scan and register your dancer or a website to get them entered into the event.
